Rescue Me ID: 17-03-16-00243Ipsee (male)

Whippet Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Ipsee is the ultimate lap dog. There is nothing he loves more than to cuddle, and will drop everything he is doing in order to be petted. Most evenings he falls deeply asleep sprawled on top of one of his humans on the couch. He will put up with almost any amount of manhandling as long as you are giving him affection. Despite all that, Ipsee isn't particularly needy. He likes attention and will follow us around the house sometimes, but is also good at entertaining himself with his chew toys as well. He'll knock his ball around for himself to chase if you aren't always available to throw it. Ipsee loves to play fetch, which is a great way ... (Read More)to tire him out more quickly than walks. He also loves being outdoors and going on hikes. However, as long as he gets enough exercise during the day, he's pretty content to lounge around the apartment if you're not a weekend warrior. Though Ipsee requires work like all other puppies, he is well behaved for his age. He knows 'sit,' 'down,' 'drop it,' 'stay,' and 'come.' He learns commands quickly and is eager to please. Mercifully, he hardly ever barks, unless there is a particularly threatening robin outside the window. Ipsee is mostly crate trained. We've only been working on it for a month, but he'll stay in the crate without whining or barking. He sleeps the whole night in his crate, and he stays there whenever he is at the apartment by himself. He does need a good bit of running around after he's been in the crate for an extended period of time, but he is a puppy after all. Ipsee usually plays great with other dogs, but can be a bit timid or overwhelmed at first if there are lots of dogs that are bigger than him at the dog park. He usually adjusts after a few minutes with some encouragement. Ipsee sometimes does not know his own strength with smaller dogs, so he might need some extra watching at first when he plays with a new friend. Rescue Me ID: 17-01-10-00348Rusty (male)

Whippet Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Rusty and his pal, Tia (ID# 17-01-10-00344, a Chihuahua), are desperately in need of a forever home. Their elderly owner recently passed away and they are being cared for by a neighbor. However, they only have a few days left before they are taken to animal control. Please help them by adopting or even volunteering to foster them while they await their own new adoptive family. (The dogs are currently in Sumner county. Poster will put prospective owners in touch with current caretakers.) Rusty is 5years old and liked to sleep in 'the big bed' with Tia and his former owner. He last loves to snuggle and go for walks. He's never met a stranger ... (Read More)and will make a wonderful pet for families and singles, young and old. He would like to be adopted with Tia, a 5 year old white Chihuahua. Tia is a bit a skiddish and does not like canes or hats. She also enjoys sleeping in the big bed -- under the covers! While we are not asking for a monetary donation, we do request that prospective owners provide a note from their current veterinarian stating that they are a responsible pet parent who truly cares about their pet's wellbeing. (New owners should get a note from a veterinarian before applying to adopt stating that he or she has agreed to provide care for the dogs once they are adopted.) (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Whippet in Tennessee
Whippet Dogs can make good pets in Tennessee if they match your IifestyIe. The Whippet is a small, elegant, Greyhound-like breed. Whippets are calm and affectionate. Whippets are excellent with respectful children and get along fine with dogs. A Whippet is not a good choice for a home with non-canine pets. Whippets need to be protected from extreme cold. With enough exercise, a Whippet does fine in an apartment or a home with a small yard.
