Rescue Me ID: 15-11-19-00261Figg (male)

Whippet Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

AGE: ~2 years SIZE: 35 pounds We love our adorable dog Figg, but our home and schedules are not conducive to his needs. He is high energy and stubborn. He loves to run, is always exploring, and has an obsession with rocks (chases them, carries them around, & digs holes for them). Figg loves to dig, especially in the sand. He also loves hikes. He's independent outside of the house but wants to cuddle inside. Figg was picked probably as a stray in Sacramento. He's pretty nervous outside the home. He has a lot of fears, including: men (although he's stayed with a man, so this is probably only strangers), bikes, skateboards (anything fast with ... (Read More)wheels), and loud noises (things that surprise him). When he gets overwhelmed, he barks and follows the thing he is scared of. Even though he's had training, his recall needs a lot of work and he can't be off of his leash unless the space is completely fenced. It's essential he has a fenced yard to run and play in, somewhere familiar where he feels safe. For the most part, he gets along with other dogs, and he's great at playing. He especially loves to be chased, because he's one of the fastest dogs at the park. He also likes to wrestle with us and with other dogs. He's not much of a ball dog, but he loves to play tug, and if you combine that with fetch, he goes wild. Indoors he needs a lot of attention. He's very curious and will follow you around the house. Figg needs an experienced owner. The perfect family for him is very active, has a lot of time to devote to him. He needs a patient owner. He can be challenging - it's the terrier in him - and he will test your patience. But he has a very sweet side, and when he crawls into your lap (which he will always try to do), it's worth it. Interview and home visit required before adoption. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Whippet in Oregon
Whippet Dogs can make good pets in Oregon if they match your IifestyIe. The Whippet is a small, elegant, Greyhound-like breed. Whippets are calm and affectionate. Whippets are excellent with respectful children and get along fine with dogs. A Whippet is not a good choice for a home with non-canine pets. Whippets need to be protected from extreme cold. With enough exercise, a Whippet does fine in an apartment or a home with a small yard.
