Whippet Mix Age: Adult
|Compatibility:|| Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids) |
|Personality:|| High Energy, Somewhat Dominant |
|Health:|| Spayed, Vaccinations Current | Half Whippet/Half Golden Retriever To think that Harmony the half whippet/half Golden Retriever is a "senior" dog is mindboggling. Sure, she is nine, and she may have lost a step or two in her quest for the Frisbee, but she can still leap in the air, graceful as a dolphin, and catch it four times out of five. Harmony is yellow, with short hair and LOTS of energy. She's an inside dog, but she needs a house with a fenced yard where she can gallop around and feel the wind in her face. She ADORES Frisbee and if she doesn't always drop it immediately at your feet, she DOES always return with it. Named after the blonde vampire on ... (Read More)"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel," her nickname is "Hoodles" or "Hoodle Dog," and when I was actively posting pictures of her on Flickr, they were popular enough that "Hoodle Dog" was a search term that Google automatically suggested. Harmony is HIGHLY energetic and playful, and while she is friendly to children, she likely would be better with older teenagers, because she likes to jump up, and her exuberance might intimidate a younger child. She also tends toward the territorial and toward food aggressiveness -- she always is fed alone -- so she's better off as an only dog. She needs to eat by herself. She has lived her life around indoor-only cats, but because she has whippet in her, she's a sight hound, which means anything that moves stirs her interest and prompts her to chase it. That hasn't endeared her to the cats I live with. She is pee-pad trained, and when she lived in a house with a doggie door, she used it readily. Harmony is a rescue herself. When she was a puppy, she turned up on her current owner's ex-wife's parents' ranch, looking for friends. She was a stray, and someone had shot her with a .22 rifle. But we rescued her, had her treated, and she suffered no long-term damage. She's a happy-go-lucky dog who enjoys a good run and enjoys being petted, cuddled and loved on. The only reason her owner is surrendering her is that he is losing his house because he is disabled and hasn't yet gotten disability payments. (Less) Animal Location:
