Meet Cash. This sweet, sweet boy is looking for a new forever home because of some changes in the family that are forcing him to be alone for extended periods of time. One change that has left Cash restless is the loss of his live-in dog buddy. Cash needs a new family who will have more time to run, play and cuddle with him. Cash is a 5-year-old German shepherd mix. His body shape looks like a whippet, slender, long tail, and a good medium frame. Cash is pretty shy with strangers in strange environments. He is never growly, snarly or bitey, just needs some time to get comfortable. It took him a solid 15-20 minutes when we met him before he had really relaxed, but even before that he gladly accepted scratches and head rubs. Cash is a medium-energy guy who enjoys exercise, but doesn't obnoxiously demand it. He is used to running and playing in a fenced back yard. Cash is great with young children. He hasn't ever been around a large group of children, but individually he has been pretty patient. Cash prefers dogs his size or smaller. However, the right chemistry for a doggy companion might be more about temperament. Just like with people, Cash needs to take his time getting used to anything new. We don't know how he is with cats. Cash is neutered, up to date on shots, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He is housebroken and does not need to be crated. If you would like to meet Cash please complete an adoption application on our website at www.pawswapofgreaterlafayette.com/adopting. His adoption fee is $150. (Less)

I am a very gorgeous mix of Labrador Retriever and Whippet. I am 47 pound cuddly bundle of love. I am just 5 years old, healthy, up to date on my shots and spayed. I am a very devoted girl, and love spending time with my humans more than anything in the world. Although I love children, more than 1 child in my home can make me feel anxious and protective. I am best suited to a home with no children - or just one calm, special kid for me to adore. I am not a good choice if you have cats, as I love to chase them (I am a Whippet mix, after all!) When I am outdoors having fun, I am full of energy. I love to run very fast. I need to have daily exercise to keep me happy and healthy. When I am indoors with my humans, I am ultra chill - the perfect lap dog. I don't like being left all alone for long periods of time. For this reason, I would be best suited for owners who work from home, or retired folks who are homebodies. I have great manners in the house - an all-round great dog, that's me! My owners love me so very much, but they have discovered that I am a 'one kid dog' and I have become quite protective of their youngest child. This is a great situation for her, but for her sister - not so much! They are hoping to find me a very loving home that is more suitable for my personality. A calm environment with adults who have plenty of time to spend with me. I would love to have a securely fenced yard to play in. Above all, I want people to love and who will love me back even more. If you would like to consider offering Kai a loving, forever home, please fill out our Request To Meet A Pet form below. Once received, we will contact you to discuss your request and set up a mutually convenient time to meet Kai and their owner in their home. |Rescue Me ID: 16-09-07-00690Porthos (male)|
Meet Porthos. This sweet guy has had a rough couple of weeks. He was originally found as a stray in a field outside of Delphi. In a frantic plea for help, Porthos jumped into the car window of the first person who stopped to help him. His finder kept him safe, looked for a possible owner, and provided him with oodles of love. Unfortunately she knew she wasn't able to keep him long term and found a new home for Porthos who she trusted would be so great. Not even two days later Porthos showed up as a stray in Lafayette. That family wasn't really as great as they seemed. Thankfully we were able to take Porthos into a foster and start the official process of finding him a great forever home. Porthos is about 1 year old. We are guessing that he is whippet or Italian greyhound mixed with a Terrier breed. That mask and curly tail throws us off a bit though. He weighs about 307pounds. Porthos is such a sweet boy who is very loving. He can be a little timid around new people, especially men, and needs time to warm up. For now, we think it's best for Porthos to go into a home without young children. His favorite place at night is to be snuggled up on the bed of his person. We would love for this to be able to continue for him in his forever home. In the first finder's home Porthos was briefly introduced to cats. He seemed to do well, but he wasn't allowed too spend much time with them. He never showed any desire to chase or hurt them. We now know that Porthos loves other dogs and might learn some important things from another confident dog. Besides that, it's always nice to see dog-friendly dogs have doggy playmates for them to romp and wrestle with. Porthos is doing so well with dogs, that we believe he needs a playmate in his forever home. Porthos is neutered, current on vaccines, heartworm tested and microchipped. Porthos is housebroken and can be trusted when confined to a room or crate. He is quiet in the home and rarely barks. The first step is to complete the adoption application in the link below. After we have reviewed the application we will arrange a meet and greet. Please include any questions you have at the end of the application. The adoption fee is $175. www.pawswapofgreaterlafayette.com/adopting (Less)

|Rescue Me ID: 16-08-15-00492Mali (female)|
Mali (short for Malibu) is a very sweet little dog. My son wanted to adopt a pet when he turned 18 and the animal shelter kept referring to her as a 'hound' mix, we assumed Hound Dog. We have since found out she's part Greyhound/Whippet family and we just don't have the set up for her to burn off her energy. She stays in a kennel at night but when I'm home, she's in the house. Has been abused in a prior home so is terrified of loud noises, storms, vacuum etc. It's not fair to her that she has no space to run. I can send more pics if interested. We just want her to have a good home and we refuse to take her back to the humane society.

|PIease Read Before Adopting a Whippet in Indiana|
Whippet Dogs can make good pets in Indiana if they match your IifestyIe. The Whippet is a small, elegant, Greyhound-like breed. Whippets are calm and affectionate. Whippets are excellent with respectful children and get along fine with dogs. A Whippet is not a good choice for a home with non-canine pets. Whippets need to be protected from extreme cold. With enough exercise, a Whippet does fine in an apartment or a home with a small yard.
