Arizona Whippet Dogs for Adoption

Urgent: This animal could be euthanized if not adopted soon.

Animal ID: A504180Bambi (female)

Whippet Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This sweetheart is CURRENTLY on the euthanasia list! We are short on room, but will pull this pet off the list if we have an approved adopter lined up. Time is of the essence. If you are interested, act now! SERIOUS INQUIRES ONLY! Euthanasia deadline is: 5/24/15 at 5 pm NOTES FROM KILL SHELTER ABOUT THIS PET: Ital Greyhound mix; Tan and White; Spayed; 1 YR/4 MOS 22.70 LBS Bambi is fearful of and has no interest in human contact. She will take treats from people, but will dart away quickly thereafter. She constantly seeks safety in small, confined spaces. She is wonderful with other dogs and interacts comfortably and sociably with ... (Read More)them. Unfortunately, we have been unable to parlay this interaction into a more receptive attitude toward human interaction. She has not displayed any defensive behaviors, such as growling or snapping, but is completely avoidant when faced with human contact. BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: Overall Kennel Behavior: Cautious, shaking, avoidant of the leash. Once leashed Bambi would not walk, but tolerated being picked up and carried. Neutral Affiliation: Avoidant, stays at end of the leash, stiff, shaking, tail tucked. Soft Contact/Friendly Affection: Shut down, tolerates everything through fear. Mouth Check Tolerance: Tolerates through fear Paw/Ear Check Tolerance: Tolerates through fear Food with People: Uninterested Dog Introduction: Interested in the other dog and approached/sniffed, she then became avoidant after the other dog growled. Food with Other Dogs: Uninterested Play/Toys/Arousal/Ability to Settle: Too scared to show arousal, shut down. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Bambi was an adoption return after 2 months. She is house trained, but she did have some accidents. She does like stuffed toys. She is very fearful of people, but does get along well with other dogs. NOTES FROM SAFE HAVEN: Bambi was originally a victim of a hoarding case & was seized for cruelty. The big shelter originally kept & adopted out all but 2 of the dogs from that case. Safe Haven took the remaining 2 at the time (Ruby & Barnaby). Bambi is from the same case. I can tell you from experience with the 2 we took, the dogs have been through a very traumatic start in life & need a lot of time to learn to trust people (at least a month, if not more). They have all been super sweet, quiet, & great with other animals. HOW THE E-LIST ADOPTION PROGRAM WORKS: - The pets posted have NOT been saved & are in danger of being euthanized at the kill shelter on the deadline posted. - You must be 100% SURE you want to adopt this pet & commit to adopting this dog sight unseen (I know, scary, but keep reading it gets better...) - E-mail Safe Haven for an application @ Safe_Haven_Animal_Rescue@live.com & be screened before the deadline so I can pull this pet off the euthanasia list. - Once I have an approved adopter, I will pull the pet off the list, get them fixed & shots - I will deliver this pet to your home where you get to adopt your new furbaby - I will be available for help with training if you need it - You can return the pet to Safe Haven if for some reason it is not working out. All I ask is that you give it a good month before making that decision. - Please note: Most pets that come from the big shelters get upper respiratory infections. It is very common & is NOT serious. It is a virus that just needs to run it's course. Equivalent to you or I having a common cold. A dog is only contagious to another dog. Cat to cat. It is advised that you keep them separate for the first week. It is also STRONGLY ADVISED that you crate your new pet. Many are very fearful & a crate is a great tool in helping them get over that & keep them safe. I strongly believe in using crates as a training tool much the same as using a crib for a baby. Adoption fee is only $45 & includes: - Spay/Neuter surgery - Up to date on Vaccinations - Harness * - Other surprise goodies from Safe Haven - Free office visit to Vet or 50% off any Optimum Wellness Plan - Other coupons from Partners - Available Paperwork: Spay/Neuter records, Vaccination records, Vet records, Micro records, Recommendation list, etc... - Continued Support: Safe Haven will be there for the lifetime of your new adopted pet. If you ever have questions or concerns, we will always be there to help. Our goal is for you & your pet to live happily ever after! * Safe Haven STRONGLY believes that collars should only be used as decoration. A dog can slip out of collar. Which becomes a problem if your dog gets lost, or you are trying to restrain your dog, & it comes off. Also, attaching a leash to a collar puts pressure on the neck, which is one of the most sensitive areas of the body, & could hurt them. For these reasons, Safe Haven includes a harness with every dog adoption to ensure the safety of the dog, as a harness is more expensive than a collar & some adopters will not buy them for this reason. A harness distributes the weight on the chest & shoulders. It (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-05-23-00407Noah (male)

Whippet Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Noah just recently arrived at Four Peaks so we are just getting to know him, he is a one year old neutered male Whippet X. He is true to the nature of the breed. Noah is a bit shy and will need time to get comfortable with his new environment. He is very well behaved and takes direction well!! May be a nice agility dog contender. Noah is good with cats, dogs even bunnies. He walks nicely on a leash and knows basic commands. Noah would do best in an older, quieter forever home. He currently uses a dog door. Noah likes to stay close to his people and solicits attention. For more info, please call 480-471-3520.

Rescue Me ID: 15-05-03-00175Piper (female)

Whippet Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Piper is the most amazing puppy I've ever had. Loved by all who meet her she is as sweet as she is beautiful. Very loyal and is easily trained. Very good with children. She LOVES other dogs especially male. She loves cats and small dogs too but this is a problem in my home. She has TOO much curiosity in the cats and due to the Whippet in her it's only a matter of time. She plays very rough with my teacup poodle but means no harm she absolutely loves her. She would be great for agility and obedience training and with some work she could be your new Frisbee partner. I am hoping she can go to a home with other dogs her size and larger but its ... (Read More)not absolutely a necessity. She is used to having someone home most of the day, I only work 3 hours a day. She loves to be a couch potato as long as you have given her some physical stimulation. She also sleeps in the bed and is a very polite sleeper. Almost potty trained. Piper's max weight will be approx.25-30lbs. She comes with all her belongings as well as 4 re washable potty pads. She is micro-chipped as well. (Less)

Whippet Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Mimi is a very sweet and loving girl. She is good with other dogs with slow and proper introductions. Sadly she does not like to share her food with other dogs. She would not mind being the only fur-baby in the house. Kennel and house trained. And she is also chipped. She loves to play ball, and run around in a nice sized yard. She walks very well on a leash with either a collar or harness. Call and leave message if interested in a meet and greet. Thank you

PIease Read Before Adopting a Whippet in Arizona
Whippet Dogs can make good pets in Arizona if they match your IifestyIe. The Whippet is a small, elegant, Greyhound-like breed. Whippets are calm and affectionate. Whippets are excellent with respectful children and get along fine with dogs. A Whippet is not a good choice for a home with non-canine pets. Whippets need to be protected from extreme cold. With enough exercise, a Whippet does fine in an apartment or a home with a small yard.
